I mentioned in day twelve that my friend Whitney ran 15 miles of my marathon with me. Whitney is one of my oldest and dearest friends, and it was such a blessing to have her support as I ran. She was here in Phoenix for work and Stephen’s race this weekend, and it was so fun to spend time with her again. I am grateful for her friendship.
I met Whitney her freshmen year at WSU. Ironically enough, I was her RA. It didn’t take us long to become friends, and then we were just about inseparable for the remainder of our time at WSU. We shared a love of sports (especially our beloved Cougs), country swing dancing, Zoolander, flag football, and laughing til our sides hurt. I can’t imagine my college experience without her.
We’ve managed to stay in touch pretty well in the years since, and a huge bonus to finding a job in Portland would be to live in the same city as her again. Whitney is such a great friend. She is kind, loyal, and giving. But she’s got sass too, and it’s a great combination. She won’t hesitate to tell you how it is (she’ll just generally do it nicely). Whitney is faithful to her friends and family. And she has a genuine faith that has often challenged and helped me in my own spiritual journey.
Whitney is one of those people who just has…it. That little something extra that just makes you notice someone, not just their looks or their style or their personality (although in all of these areas, Whit’s got it going on…), but that intangible quality that makes you want to know them. Whitney is vivacious.
Whitney is an artist. She is a photographer, and dang can that girl take a photo! She has a way of capturing life through her camera lens; a way of somehow capturing not just a moment in time, but the soul of a moment. She’s incredibly talented, but sincerely humble. So if you’re ever looking for a photographer, you should definitely check her out!
Whit, spending the weekend with you only served to remind me how amazing you are and how blessed I am to be able to call you friend. I am so grateful for our years together and for all of the memories that we’ve shared. I love you.
Today, I’m thankful for Whitney Sherritt (soon to be Petretto!).
